Presentations and Extra task for Workshop III

Hej,

Looking forward to see your presentations tomorrow. We'll be at "Bertil Hammersalen" from 17.15 to 21.00. Remember that we put all the presentations together to save you one day. Attendance to the presentations is compulsory and you are expected even to stay to the end. Your classmates would appreciate you watching their presentations and getting even comments on their project.

All the projects are uploaded to the course portal, for those who are curious about the others' work.

An extra task for those who missed the third workshop is also posted.

See you tomorrow evening.

Lecture on Peak Oil. 6th of November!

Peak oil, declining EROI and our national economies.

On November 6, the Global Energy Systems group is proud to welcome professor Charles A.S. Hall (http://www.esf.edu/EFB/hall/) from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry to the Department of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University. Professor Hall is, for instance, known for introducing the concept of energy return of investment (EROI) and for writing the book Energy and the Wealth of Nations. He has just as coauthor written an article about the American presidential election on “The Hill”: What no candidate says about energy and the economy (http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/energy-a-environment/265295-what-no-candidate-says-about-energy-and-the-economy)
At 14.15, November 6, in Zootissalen in Zoologen, EBC, professor Hall will give a talk about our resource constrained world depleting the highest quality resources, the peak in oil production and a likely continued decrease in EROI on oil and other resources and its implications for the economy.

Employees at the department of Earth Sciences, as well as the public, are welcome to come and listen.
(A seminar in Stockholm with Charles Hall on November 7 has been fully booked since the beginning of October: http://www.globalutmaning.se/?page_id=289®event_action=register&event_id=80&name_of_event=Peak Oil Postponed)

Tomorrow’s lecture – project example

Hi,

Cecilia Mark-Herbert is recommending that you read this, apart from the given literature, before her lecture. An inspiration for those of you who think of an academical career. Enough that you skim through to grasp an overview:

Larsson, A., Ronald Muyingo, R., Serebrennikov, D., Ahmed, S. &  Mark-Herbert, C. 2011. “Sustainable Business Development A case study of the international logistics industry” (Chapter 4, pp 41-60) in Sustainable Development - Education, Business and Management - Architecture and Building Construction - Agriculture and Food Security, (ISBN 978-953-51-0116-1, edited by Chaouki Ghenai  ( This is a student project that was revised, reviewed and reworked to a book chapter, available in full text in an open source at: http://cdn.intechopen.com/pdfs/29272/InTech-Sustainable_business_development_a_case_study_of_the_international_logistics_industry.pdf)

3. Project examples:
Soon I will post some examples from previous years' final projects. They are supposed to be inspiration to you, doesn't mean that you have to follow exactly their way of doing things.
